"Paintings With Teeth?"
My purpose with each work I do is to bring the viewer into the creative process by encouraging each viewer to find his or her own meaning/imagery to each painting. Whether or not the viewer sees my particular imagery is not important. In preparation for a painting, I create lines in wet gesso without a preconceived idea of what the final product will look like. The lines I create are the basis for my imagery. I study the lines until an image or a composition comes to mind and then work to bring that out onto the canvas. To best view my work, one should look as one does at a Rorschach inkblot diagram: do not look for, but look passively and receive what the painting has to offer. Have you ever wondered if paintings had teeth, would they get cavities? Because, I can assure you, they don't brush regularly.
